Deputy Chief Engineer

ERS have a Client who is actively seeking to appoint a Senior Engineer to participate as a key integrated member of the project organisation and undertake the responsibilities and tasks as directed by the Chief Engineer. 

Aspects will, amongst others, include all elements and aspects of engineering through construction, commissioning and eventual operation of the nuclear power stations in the UK with a strong emphasis in the managing of the considerable task of its certification and licensing.

Location: Paris

Salary: Circa £80,000

ERS are looking for a Senior Engineer on behalf of a Client, to participate as a key integrated member of the project organisation and undertake the responsibilities and tasks as directed by the Chief Engineer.

Aspects will, amongst others, include all elements and aspects of engineering through construction, commissioning and eventual operation of the nuclear power stations in the UK with a strong emphasis in the managing of the considerable task its certification and licensing.

Support the Client’s engineering lead in, managing the development of the engineering plan including the setting and ensuring of engineering quality and standards. Support the build, and the management thereof, of an engineering resource with the joint Client organisations programme team aware of all engineering developments.

Create opportunities and assist in securing operational support for the longer term. 

 Reporting To: Chief Engineer, UK Project Director and professionally to Engineering Lead.

Key Responsibilities:

Key member of the Architect Engineering (AE) core team responsible for the engineering task required of the UK EPR programme. Responsible for jointly leading, managing, and driving the delivery of the whole engineering task together with, and as directed by, the AE’s Chief Engineer.

Responsibilities include (as directed by the AE Chief Engineer) safety, licensing and managing of the engineering task and allocation of engineering resource at all levels and working with various suppliers of the engineering tasks. Will include the development and monitoring of various standards, plans and schedules to meet the UK EPR timescales.

Accountable to the Client’s Project Director within the AE for satisfactory delivery contribution to the AE and to the Engineering Lead for the quality and standard of engineering activity undertaken.

Salary Circa £80k

Essential Qualifications:

Suitable professional engineering qualifications with chartered engineer status.

Desirable Qualifications:

Desirably fluent in English and French (both spoken and written).

Experience Required:

Wide range of engineering experience covering nuclear power station design, construction and operation with significant and demonstrable experience (20 Years +) in the:

  • Engineering aspects of nuclear power station plant and systems including UK licensing aspects in particular.
  • Engineering of large scale multidisciplinary design and construction projects.
  • Management of large scale engineering teams across multiple sites.
  • Knowledge of the technologies utilised in within nuclear power stations desirably PWR reactors and knowledge of UK licensing and safety requirements.
  • Knowledge of engineering processes, tools and their application into the engineering of a nuclear power station with the UK.

Key Attributes:

  • Suitable professional engineering qualifications with chartered engineer status and demonstrable track record in the application of good engineering practice in the power industry with significant experience of nuclear.
  • Strong customer communication, interfacing and influencing skills with appropriate attitudes and behaviours towards safety.
  • Credentials and gravitas to establish authority and to convey engineering competence to the project team and stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of International nuclear market and suppliers within the UK.

    Desirably fluent in English and French (both spoken and written)
