ERS has a client seeking a suitable candidate for the provision of advice with regard to all aspects of radiological protection on all nuclear sites where the client has a presence. Notionally Leicester based but travel to Dounreay and other UK nuclear sites as necessary.

Job Description

Provision of advice with regard to all aspects of radiological protection on all nuclear sites where the client has a presence.

Essential Skills and Qualifications

Degree qualified, RPA 2000 Radiation Protection Adviser Certificate of Competence, Significant experience of RPA responsibilities, Literate/Computer Literate/Ability to communicate at all levels.

Able to work under own initiative, be well motivated and enthusiastic, with the ability to communicate with other disciplines within the project team.

Able to interface with client staff and project partners.

Good personal planning, organisation and analytical skills.

Mobile and able to work on site.

Desirable Skills and Qualifications

 BSc(Hons) in Physics  Substantial experience  Experience of working to quality assurance systems certified to ISO9000/2000  Experience on a nuclear site  Experience of complex mechanical handling systems  Activities and Responsibilities  Provision of advice with regard to the restriction of exposure and maintenance of engineered controls and other equipment provided for such restriction.  Production of written systems of work and local rules.  Selection, appointment and training of Radiation Protection Supervisors (RPS).  Investigation of abnormally high exposures and over-exposures.  Development and management of Radiological Training Programmes for ALSTEC, sub-contractor and Client employees.  Hazard assessment and contingency arrangements.  Examination of any plans for new plant or premises or modifications to existing plant or premises from a radiation protection aspect.  All aspects of radiation protection that apply to work with ionising radiation performed by the client.  Liaison with the client`s RPA(s) regarding interface arrangements relating to the control of exposure to ionising radiations and compliance with the Ionising Radiations Regulations (1999).  Liaison with other RPA`s as appointed by the client.  Participate in CSS Tier 2 Site Co-ordination meetings on matters relating to Radiological Safety.

Supervision

The Radiological protection Adviser is responsible to the Construction and Site Services Manager but will report to the Site Manager as appropriate.

Training and development opportunities are available to staff to broaden their skill base
